Munhyeon-dong monkfish suyuk that can be changed into braised monkfish with potato noodles
A monkfish-focused seafood table in Munhyeon-dong, on Suyeong-ro 39beon-gil. The Namyang parking lot in front can be used, but lunch can fill it and create double-parking, so nearby lots or Mega Mart parking are practical backups. The lunch break starts at 13:30, so it is better to arrive around 11:00 than to aim for a late lunch.
Waiting is handled by writing your phone number, party size, and menu inside the shop; staff call when the table is ready. Weekend lunch can mean about a 20-minute wait, and the waiting area is not especially comfortable on hot days. The side dishes have a strong homemade feel, and monkfish soup comes with the table.
The main order is monkfish suyuk, with the large size noted around KRW 65,000. The monkfish flesh is firm, bouncy, and mild, so the first half of the meal is about tasting the fish itself. After eating part of it, add KRW 10,000 to change the remaining ingredients into braised monkfish.
When changing to braised monkfish, choose mild, medium, or spicy heat; the medium level stays fairly gentle. The sauce is a little bold and savory, which makes it a good second act after the clean suyuk. Add the potato noodles, because their chewy texture holds the sauce well and turns the finish into the most memorable part of the meal.
