Yeonsan Dakdoritang

연산닭도리탕

Togok dakdoritang specialist where calling ahead saves the 30-minute cook time

About

Despite the Yeonsan name, this dakdoritang specialist is not right by Yeonsan Station; it sits on Gwajeong-ro toward the Togok and Mangmi police-box area. There is no dedicated parking, so buses or walking usually make more sense. From Yeonsan Station, many visits treat it as a short bus ride rather than a quick walk.

The dakdoritang takes about 30 minutes to cook, so call ahead and order before arriving. Choose the spice level when calling, from mild to medium to spicy, and the table can often sit down to food that is ready. Dinner fills quickly, with some visits seeing the room nearly full before 7 p.m.

The small pot is around KRW 30,000, medium KRW 45,000, and large KRW 58,000. Big potatoes, carrots, onions, and chicken are cooked down in a dented metal bowl. The sauce is spicy-sweet and thick enough to crush potatoes into rice, and ramen noodles are best added near the end when the staff can reboil them in the sauce.

The side dishes feel home-style, with kimchi, fish cake, and namul, and eggs may come as fried eggs or boiled eggs depending on the visit. Spicy squid salad or whelk salad works as a drinking snack while waiting for the main pot. Service is often described as kind, but peak hours can be noisy, hot, and busy, so it fits friends, drinks, and a filling dinner more than a quiet meal.
