Hand-kneaded tricolour sujebi beside an 8,000-pyeong lotus field, with Cheolma hanwoo gukbap alongside
A sujebi house at 221-4, Ungcheon-ri, Cheolma-myeon in Gijang-gun, sitting just above the 8,000-pyeong Gomnae lotus field. It opened in 2012 and is run by the local Cheolma Gomnae women’s association. From outside it reads as a sturdy greenhouse and first-timers often wonder whether it is a restaurant at all, but the room inside is large. The old floor seating has been replaced with tables, and the windows look straight out at pine trees and the lotus beds. In July and August the flowers are in full bloom and most people walk the field after eating.
The signature is lotus-leaf sujebi at KRW 7,000. The dough is worked with lotus leaf into three colours, white, green, and orange, and hand-kneading leaves the pieces neither thick nor thin, with real chew. The broth is a clear anchovy-and-vegetable stock loaded with onion, sweet pumpkin, and garlic chives, gentle rather than assertive but with just enough chilli heat to keep it from going flat.
The Korean beef gukbap at KRW 10,000 uses Cheolma hanwoo and comes generously filled with meat, though it sells out if you arrive late. The real sleeper is the radish kimchi, fermented just enough to turn funky, and it sells by the container to take home. There is also house tofu, janchi guksu, and acorn jelly salad, with cold soybean noodles in summer. The lotus-leaf jeon at KRW 9,000, once the other signature, is no longer served.
There are no reservations and no remote queue; you line up on site, with the greenhouse beside the entrance serving as the waiting area. Twelve groups ahead at weekday lunch still cleared in about twenty-five minutes. Open 11:00 to 16:30 with last orders at 16:00 and no dinner service, closed Mondays. The private lot is large but shared with visitors to the lotus field, so it fills up at weekends and around mealtimes.
