Danggam Market old-school chicken shop for spicy-sweet chicken duruchigi, glass noodles, and crispy tongdak

About

An old chicken shop inside Danggam Market, with access from the market lane or the outside door. There is no dedicated parking, so use Danggam Market public parking or nearby paid lots within a short walk. Dine-in starts from 4 p.m., takeout starts earlier, and weekend early evening can already be full.

The signature is chicken duruchigi. Choose the spice level, with medium being the easiest first order. The sauce is sweet, peppery, and garlicky, and the bone-in chicken stays tender enough to eat with the onions and vegetables. Add the glass noodles when ordering, because they cannot be added midway and taste best after absorbing the sauce from the start.

The fried chicken is listed as Kentucky-style, and a half order works well beside the duruchigi. It comes out crisp, lightly sweet in the batter, and salty enough for beer. Sauced tongdak, salt, the house sweet-spicy sauce, ssamjang, and cool chicken radish keep the table in a classic market-chicken rhythm.

A small fried-gizzard starter may come with drinks, and the chewy gizzard is especially good with salt or dipped into the duruchigi sauce. Ask for instant rice if you want to mix it into the remaining sauce. This is a local drinking table for friends and chicken-and-beer nights, with an old restroom and market-shop atmosphere rather than a polished date-room feel.
